More than 1,600 companies around the worldofficially support the Task Force on Climate-related Disclosure or TCFD. Metriois proud to be one of these organizations that are engaged in building afinancial system that is more resilient to climate change.
The TCFD was appointed by the FinancialSecurity Board (FSB) in December 2015, in response to the climate emergency.Chaired by Michael Bloomberg, TCFD is a working group that aims to formulate recommendationsfor increasing transparency between companies and investors in terms of riskand opportunities linked to climate change. In the absence of reliableinformation on climate, the financial markets cannot evaluate these risks and opportunities, making the transition to a low-carbon economy more difficult.
The TCFD recommendations are based on the following four pillars:
· Governance: Disclose the organization’s governance around climate related risks and opportunities.
· Strategy: Disclose the actual and potential impacts of climate-related risks and opportunities on the organization’s businesses, strategy, and financial planning where such information is Material.
· Risk management: Disclose how the organization identifies, assesses, and manages climate-related risks.
· Measure and objectives: Disclose the metrics and targets used to assess and manage relevant climate-related risks and opportunities where such information is material.
These recommendations were developed with the objective of reducing investment risks and encouraging organizations to integrate sustainable development opportunities in their risk management and strategic planning processes. The TCFD is therefore committed to the transparency and stability of financial markets. A better understanding of the effect of climate change risk on the part of businesses and investors will allow the financial markets to channel investments into more durable and resilient solutions, opportunities and economic models.
The number of organizations that support the TCFD has grown exponentially, increasing from 100 in 2017 to more than 1,600 today. This includes 60 percent of the world’s 100 largest public companies.
